- Lagos State Governor commends Avon Medical team, commits to public-private sector collaboration to boost healthcare sector.
Lagos, Nigeria – 15 April 2025: Avon Medical Practice, one of Nigeria’s leading multi-specialty healthcare providers, commissioned its latest ultramodern facility on Monday, April 14, 2025, in Lagos. The landmark event emphasised its dedication to democratising access to affordable, world-class healthcare across Nigeria.
The ceremony was graced by high-level dignitaries, including His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Professor Kofo Abayomi; and the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi; alongside representatives from partner companies and leading figures in the health and business sectors. The Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony O. Elumelu, CFR was also present at the occasion.
The newly launched 25-bed medical facility offers a comprehensive range of advanced medical services, including: a modern Accident & Emergency Care Unit, a fully equipped Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), advanced diagnostic services featuring a brand-new CT scan machine, and a state-of-the-art operating theatre, among others.
Since inception, Avon Medical has grown to a 50-bed multi-specialty healthcare network, spanning outpatient centres, specialist clinics, a state-of-the-art Dialysis Centre in Lagos, and several onsite clinics embedded within corporate organisations across Lagos and beyond. It has treated over 164,000 patients and handled over 13,000 dialysis sessions, prioritising patient care as the foundation of its service delivery.

During the event, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu congratulated Avon Medical on the launch of the facility.
He said: “I feel truly proud of what Avon Medical has done and what you have been doing in the past 16 years. We know that you started as a small clinic. You went into the health insurance scheme. But now you have grown to a full diagnostic, O&G, paediatric health facility.”
He added: “For us, it is really to thank you, to encourage you, and to say that we are watching. We want to assure you that we will continue to create an enabling environment for you to work and to encourage others that want to also participate.”
The coordinating minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, duly represented by the Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, commended the Avon Medical team.
He said: “Today’s launch marks more than the unveiling of a new hospital building. It is the launch of a renewed vision for private sector-led innovation, excellence and partnership in Nigeria’s health system.”
